Ickworth Primary School

Parents and the Community
The School Origins

Ickworth Park Primary School takes its name from the large house and park, owned by the National Trust, which lies within the village boundaries.

Our school colours are red, grey and white and the logo has an oak tree with 4 acorns which are a reminder of the fact that in September 1989 when the new school was opened in Horringer, it replaced 4 very small schools in the surrounding villages.

Catchment Area
Ickworth Park has the widest catchment area for a primary school in Suffolk and for this reason two-thirds of the pupils travel to school on a bus.

Our Aim and Standards
We have an overall aim which is to establish a lively and harmonious community which is effective in providing a sound education for each child according to individual needs and abilities. The welfare of each child is of paramount importance. There is a high standard of behaviour marked by respect and responsibility and parents and teachers work together, supporting and encouraging the children in their care,

Some Facts
The school will have 173 children on roll in January 2004. The school staff will consist of 8 full time teachers, 4 teaching assistants, 2 clerical assistants, a caretaker and 2 cleaners. School meals are cooked on the premises and 6 midday supervisors will help to look after the children at lunchtime.

Achievements
The school had an OFSTED inspection in March 2003. The report highlights the school's good features which include pupils' attainments in English, Maths, Art and Design, the provision for SEN, the dedication and commitment of the staff, the behaviour of the pupils, liaison with pre-school and middle school, the leadership of the head teacher and the relationships between the school and parents. "Much of the teaching is good and a little is better".
The school's SAT results are good and comparative information with National results are printed each year in the school brochure.

Parents, partners, grandparents and people from our local community are encouraged to help in school. We are very pleased to welcome almost 20 adults a week who come and give assistance with reading, maths, cooking, art and ICT. Parents also run after school activities and these include singing, gymnastics and football.

There is an active PTA although they are always looking for new members with fresh ideas! They organise social and fund raising events. All pupils enjoy a termly disco and the most recent fund raising events was a Ladies Evening which raised £1,200. Money raised has paid for a rich variety of visitors: a Storyteller; a famous artist and Zulu dancers. The PTA also buys many other items like books, computers, CD players.
