Horringer Oil Buying Syndicate was established in January 2006 with the following objectives:-
- Save money for each householder member by buying in bulk on a scheduled delivery date.
- Cut down pollution and make roads safer around the village by reducing lorry traffic
- Raise money through donations of part of the savings created towards the Horringer Community Centre Car Park Fund (Phase 2) with a minimum donation of £5 per order.
In its first year around130,000 litres of 28 second Central Heating Oil has been delivered to around 100 households, which is estimated to be around 25% of households in Horringer using Oil. Not a bad start but membership could be increased to mutual benefit of each householder and the community centre car park (phase 2) project.
Savings of 12-15% in price have been achieved which is between 4 – 5 pence per litre. This represents at least £70 per household per year based on average consumption levels for semi detached houses and much higher of course for larger properties. Donations of £894.10 have been raised to date for 2006 deliveries.
Scheduled deliveries in 2008
Now we have over 140 members we arrange deliveries on the second Thursday of each month.
Provided you place your orders with Catherine Raja before the end of the previous month you will automatically be included on the next month’s order list.
If, on occasions the total quantity ordered is small, the Buyer may contact all parties and ask them if they can defer their order until the following month. This is to ensure an adequate price saving from larger order.
Please lock your tank opening where possible, to prevent theft.
